Pigeon Island
The one Kaş dive where you meet a shark: luckily, it's marble.
A site with routes for training and experienced divers alike. Kemal Tufan's white marble shark sculpture, a reminder of recent underwater art exhibitions, gives first-timers a friendly scare. Dive southeast over the rocky slope and a bit of sand to find the old wooden wreck "La Villa" at 22 m, a little scattered around; east from there is a deeper small reef at 28 m, famous for its friendly striped groupers and a profusion of broken amphorae, and the holes in the soft sand are full of surprises. Going back northwest while staying at 25 m you meet a newer sheet-metal wreck sunk as an artificial reef; continuing west returns you to the island and the friendly white shark. Follow the shore northward and the peak-performance-buoyancy exercise rings are a lot of fun. Groupers, octopus, moray, caretta and barracuda are all on the guest list.
