The short answer: is the water warm?

The live box above already answers today; the bigger picture: the sea in Kaş stays above 23°C from June to November, and sits in the 27-30°C band from July to September. In summer, "will I be cold?" simply isn't a question here. Even in winter the surface rarely drops below 18°C; this corner of the Mediterranean cools late and warms early.

The figures below aren't guesses: they're averages we computed from five years of open-data records (2021-2025). The "typical range" column shows how the same month ran in its colder and warmer years.

How the sea behaves through the year

The sea runs about a season behind the air. The air starts warming in April, but the sea hits its coldest in February-March and stays cool into May. The same lag works in reverse in autumn: while the air cools in October, the sea holds the heat it banked all summer and still cruises at 21-26°C in November. That's why October has a special reputation among locals: the crowds have gone, the sea hasn't.

The peak is August; in recent years the August average has pushed 30°C. The bravest month is February: an 18°C sea is still an option for cold-water swimmers, not for everyone.

Swimming is one thing, diving another: it cools with depth

The table shows surface values. The deeper you go, the cooler it gets; in summer you cross a distinct cold layer called the thermocline. That's why you wear a wetsuit on a discovery dive even in August, a thin one. Which thickness suits which month, and how diving conditions run through the year, is covered month by month in our Kaş diving season guide.

There's an upside too: that deep coolness pairs with remarkable clarity. At Kaş's dive sites, visibility exceeds 20 metres on most days.

And don't let the cold keep you out of the water either: with our regularly renewed equipment and double-layer thermal wetsuits, you can dive with us all 12 months of the year. Winter trips are planned around the weather; send us your dates and we'll look together.

Where does this data come from?

The live temperature and the table are based on Open-Meteo, an open data source publishing satellite- and model-based sea data. The live value is fetched automatically several times a day; the table we computed from five years of hourly records (2021-2025). The goal isn't marketing, it's setting honest expectations: if you come in February the sea will be 18°C, and we'll say so.

Frequently asked questions

What is the sea temperature in Kaş right now?
The live box at the top of this page shows the current value; it refreshes automatically several times a day. The same live temperature is shown in the strip at the top of our site.
Which months are warm enough to swim in Kaş?
For most guests the comfortable swimming window runs from late May to November. In July, August and September the water sits at 27-30°C. In winter the surface stays around 18-20°C; a short swim is possible but not for everyone.
Is the water colder when you dive?
Yes, the water cools with depth; in summer you feel a distinct cold layer called the thermocline. That's why divers wear wetsuits even in months that look warm for swimming. Month-by-month wetsuit advice is in our diving season guide.
Where do these temperature figures come from?
The live value and the table are based on Open-Meteo, an open data source combining satellite and model sea data; the table averages the years 2021-2025. A thermometer reading at the shore can differ by a degree or two depending on the day and the bay.
